With over 20 CD’s to his credit as a Band Leader, and numerous others as a Sideman…Wycliffe is a prolific Jazz recording & performance artist. He is as renowned for his prowess on the Trombone as he is as a Composer, Conductor, or Arranger. Early in his professional career, he established great credentials through his performances in the Wynton Marsalis Septet. Likewise as an original member of Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra…and as a featured guest artist on Billy Taylor’s “Jazz at the Kennedy Center” Series.
As a Music & Jazz Educator, Wycliffe Gordon presents master classes, clinics, workshops, children’s concerts and lectures to students from elementary schools to universities all over the world. In recognition of his professional and academic accomplishments, since 2000, Wycliffe has held positions as Associate Professor at Michigan State University, Professor of Jazz Arts at Manhattan School of Music, and Professor of Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School. He is currently the Augusta University Director of Jazz Studies in Augusta Georgia.
During his appearance here for 2025’s 13th Annual True Blue Jazz Festivals’ Headliner Concert Event on Saturday October18th…Wycliffe Gordon will arrive on Friday the 17th in order to conduct a Master Class Workshop for the Cape Henlopen High School Jazz Band Students.
Over the years, Wycliffe Gordon has shared the stage or recorded with the like of Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Paul Simon, Natalie Merchant, Rene Marie, Dianne Reeves, Anat Cohen, Ricky Skaggs, Arturo Sandoval, Doc Severinsen, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Tommy Flanagan, Shirley Horn, Joe Henderson, Eric Reed, and Randy Sandke, to name just a few. Wycliffe has received the award for ‘Trombonist of the Year’ 15 times since 2001, by the Jazz Journalists Association. He is also the youngest member of the ‘U.S. Statesmen of Jazz’ (a touring ensemble featuring senior musicians), and in many tour performances continues to serve as a musical ambassador for the U.S. State Department.
The 13th Annual True Blue Jazz Festival for 2025 proudly presents the Wycliffe Gordon Event from 8p-1030p on Saturday October 18th at Nassau Valley Vineyards Winery in Grand Cru Hall.
Wycliffe will perform with a Septet that features a special treat for Jazz Fans from DC to NYC….an outstanding lineup of top jazz artists will accompany Mr. Gordon through his selected Jazz Charts of favorites, & from among his personal catalogue of his own compositions.
